Rug Cleaning in Vineville
Collection and delivery in Vineville are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.
What Vineville is built from
One of the oldest suburbs in the city, strung along Vineville Avenue north-west of downtown. Large Victorian and early-twentieth-century houses on deep lots, with porches, columns and rooms scaled for entertaining — and a busy arterial road running straight past the front steps.
Established households in houses that have been properly furnished for a century. Formal front rooms with hand-knotted rugs in them, and traffic going past the window at every hour of the day.
The Vineville problem
Living on a main road puts something into a rug that a house two streets back never sees, and it is not dust. Tyre wear and brake wear throw off a very fine particulate — rubber, carbon and iron off the discs — and unlike ordinary grit it is oily and it is dark. Oily soil behaves nothing like sand: it films each individual fibre instead of lying loose between them, it will not release to plain water, and it holds on to everything else that lands on top of it. The iron is the second half, because iron particles sitting in a foundation that goes damp eventually oxidise, and what that leaves is a warm rust-coloured cast that gets read as age. The route in is the front of the house — a door opened onto the avenue, a sash left up through the spring, and the same air drawn under the front door every time the system runs — so the damage runs front to back through the building. The room nearest the road is the greyest, the field goes flat and quiet before anything looks dirty, and a rug of the same age from the back bedroom looks ten years younger next to it.
If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
